Running errands for your mom can sometimes become a tedious task, but a Virginia woman has no complaints after becoming $50,000 richer.
While on an errand run for her mom, Katelynne Berland of Yorktown, about 62 miles east of Richmond, was buying her mom lottery tickets at 7-Eleven when she decided to try her luck at the game. Berland bought her first $1 lottery ticket for the Pick 5 day drawing on April 14, the Virginia Lottery said in a news release.
Choosing the perfect numbers, Berland matched the drawing's winning combination: 2-9-4-2-3.

To play Pick 5, players must purchase a 50 cent or $1 ticket. For more chances to win, players can add the "fireball" option, which will allow you to choose an additional number combination. Players can choose their own numbers − from 00000 through 99999 − on a playslip or choose an “Easy Pick” for the computer-generated option. Day drawings are held at 1:59 p.m. and night are at 11 p.m., the lottery said.
What does the first-time lottery winner plan to do with her winnings?
Helping other people seems to be a part of Berland’s character.
Berland told lottery officials while claiming her prize on April 24 that she plans to help her sister pay for her college tuition.
What are the odds of winning Pick 5?
The odds of winning the top prize of $50,000 are 1 in 100,000, the Virginia Lottery said.
